Journeys

Travel has always been a sacred ceremony of personal transformation for me.

It is a container to explore without limits. I can be… anybody. And when I can be anybody I discover more deeply who I truly am.

Now I am excited to hold ceremonial space for others as we let the medicine of travel transform.

Oftentimes we have to choose between a self-development retreat or an opportunity to learn. In these hand-crafted journeys, you receive both.

The craft, culture, creativity, and nature are the medicine, and group coaching sessions are woven throughout to integrate your experience so that by the end you emerge transformed.

DYEING & WEAVING IN

Oaxaca

Nov 5-12 2023

Oaxaca, Mexico

Oaxaca has been home to weaving culture since 1500 BC and has remained untouched in many ways. In this week-long immersion, we learn from the keepers of this tradition about natural dying, weaving, and plant alchemy.

DAY 1 ARRIVALS

Arrivals, rest and relax, and then share an opening dinner of delicious local food.

DAY 2 PURIFICATION

We open the week with a group session exploring what your intentions are to explore throughout the week, this is followed by a traditional sweat lodge called a temescal to purify ourselves and be ready to receive the medicine of the journey. The late afternoon is free to rest or explore.

DAY 3 ALTAR BUILDING

In the morning we will hear from a woman who builds altars for the Day of the Dead on the art and symbology of altar building. We’ll then visit the central market you’ll purchase items to creat your own altar. The afternoon is free to explore the center and in the early evening, we return to Tierra del Sol where we’ll build our personal altars that you’ll work with throughout the week as part of your transformational journey.

DAY 4 NATURAL DYEING

Today we visit Teotitlan del Valle a Zapotec community where we’ll learn natural dyeing from a women’s collective and hear about their struggle for their rights. We’ll then visit sacred ruins. In the afternoon we’ll have a group integration session.

DAY 5 BACKSTRAP LOOM WEAVING & PLANT ALCHEMY

The weaving of thread has held symbolic meaning across cultures. There is much to learn about ourselves from this practice, and today we begin dipping our toes into an ancient weaving technique that dates back 3,400 years in Mexico and learning from the women who keep this wisdom.

In the afternoon we have a workshop on the magic of plants and how to distill their essences. Afterwards, we have a group integration session where we channel our plant allies.

DAY 6 BACKSTRAP LOOM WEAVING & CACAO CEREMONY

We continue deepening our practice of this tradition to create your own sash that you will be able to take home with you. In the afternoon we have a cacao ceremony where we work with this sacred heart-opening plant to deepen our connection to self, the collective, and Spirit.

DAY 7 CLOSING

We start the day with a session to integrate the transformation from the week and define how we can bring it back into our lives. We ceremonially close our altars and visit a sacred Zapotec site to make an offering to the land. In the afternoon we visit the center of Oaxaca where you are free to explore and we have a group closing dinner.
